Eligibility

  • 1.Currently enrolled as a full-time student at a university (undergraduate school) outside Japan.
  • 2.GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher.
  • *All classes in this program are conducted in English. For students enrolled at universities where English is not the primary language of instruction, the language proficiency levels listed below are recommended.
    TOEFL PBT®: 550, TOEFL iBT®: 79, IELTS: 6.0.
  • *If there are too many applications, a selection will be made.

Application

Applications must be submitted online. The online application will be available starting Monday, February 17. Please attach the following documents to the online application.

  • 1)Transcripts from your home university.
    *A minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is required.
  • 2)Transcript of grades
  • 3)Passport copy.
    *Please photocopy the page showing your passport number and photo.
    *Please submit a statement of reasons for your participation in WSS2025 (200 words or less in English).

Notification of Acceptance

Notification of acceptance will be sent by e-mail to all applicants on Monday, April 7.

Visa

Students from the U.S., Canada, and Europe do not need a visa if their stay in Japan is for 90 days or less. On the other hand, students from Asia, Africa, and the Middle East need a visa. For students who require a visa, the Waseda Summer Session Office will send an “Letter of Admission” and “Letter of Invitation” after confirming payment. After receiving the documents, please apply for the visa by yourself at the nearest Japanese Embassy or Consulate-General. It may take several weeks for the visa to be issued, so please apply well in advance.

STEP 2

Book your airline ticket

Before booking a flight, please make sure to read the following.

  • All participants in this program must arrive in Tokyo by Friday, June 13 in order to attend the orientation on Saturday, June 14. Classes will start on Monday, June 16.
  • A pick-up service is available from Narita Airport to your allocated accommodation. All limousine buses must be reserved. Pick-up service is not available from Haneda Airport, so please make your own way to your accommodation.
  • Check-out from the dormitory will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 25. If you wish to stay in Japan after this program, please find your own accommodation.

  • 7)Contact address in Japan only for those who arrange their own accommodation

STEP 4

Accommodation and Meeting Point at Narita Airport*

*Only for those who wish to be picked up at Narita Airport

The Waseda Summer Session office will inform you in mid-May 2025.
The designated accommodations will be announced by e-mail.
Only those who wish to use the pick-up service at Narita Airport will be notified of the meeting place.

STEP 5

"Letter of Admission" and "Letter of Invitation"

Students who need a visa will receive an “Letter of Admission” and “Letter of Invitation” by mail from the Waseda University Summer Session Office around May 2025.

STEP 6

Applying for a Visa

Students who need a visa to enter Japan should apply for a visa at the nearest Japanese Embassy or Consulate General as soon as the Letter of Admission and Letter of Invitation are received from the Waseda Summer Session Office. It may take several weeks to obtain a visa, so please apply well in advance.

Disability Access Guidelines

The Waseda University Summer Session is open to all undergraduate students regardless of disability status, gender, nationality, religion, creed, or political beliefs.

The faculty and staff of this program will work with the Accessibility Support Center and other relevant departments to provide academic accommodations in this program as outlined in the “WSS Disability Access Guidelines”.
