Process
Eligibility
- 1.Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university as a full-time student out side of Japan (undergraduate)
- 2.GPA 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or above
- *The Summer Session courses will be taught in English.
For students enrolled in educational institutions where English is not the main language of instruction, the following level of language efficiency is recommended.
TOEFL/PBT: 550; TOEFL/iBT: 79; IELTS: 6.0
- *We will screen applications in case we receive more applications than we can accept.
How to Apply
The application must be completed online. Online applications will be opened from March 1, 2022. The following documents are required to be attached to the online application form.
- 1)An OFFICIAL transcript from the applicant’s home institution.
(The minimum GPA requirement is 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.) - 2)Grading scale
- 3)Color ID photo, plain background (taken within the last 3 months)
- 4)Passport copy (pages showing passport number and face photo required)
When applying online, applicants are also asked to explain
why you would like to join the Summer Session.
Please submit the reason for applying (maximum 200 words in English).

Notice of Acceptance
Notice of Acceptance will be sent to all applicants by April 15th, 2022 by e-mail.
Visa
Students from the U.S., Canada, and most European countries do not need a visa if they stay in Japan for less than 90 days. On the other hand, those who are from many Asian, African, and Middle Eastern countries will need visas to visit Japan. The Waseda Summer Session Office will send you a “Certificate of Admission” and invitation letter after confirming the payment. Applicants requiring a visa should apply at their local Japanese Embassy/Consulate General on their own. It may take several weeks to have a visa issued.

Book airplane tickets

Prior to booking your flights, please note the following information.
- ・All students should arrive in Tokyo by Friday, June 17th. We will hold a program orientation on Saturday, June 18th. Sessions will start on Monday, June 20th.
- ・Complimentary limousine bus service from Narita Airport to your accommodation is available upon reservation.
- ・No complimentary limousine bus service is available from Haneda airport.
- ・For those who do not take above limousine bus service, self-check in to your accommodation is available between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm for apartment type, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm for dormitory type on Friday, June 17th.
- ・Check out time is 10:00 am on Friday, July 15th.
- ・Students who wish to stay in Japan longer than the summer session period need to find a place to stay on their own. For those who need visa to enter Japan, your maximum length of stay in Japan is between Friday June 10th to Friday July 23rd.
STEP 3

- 3)Limousine bus service reservation (reservation is required)
- 4)Mailing address for "Certificate of Admission" and "Invitation Letter"
(applicable only for those who need to apply for a visa). - 5)Waseda Summer Session 2022 T-Shirt size
- 6)Contact address in Japan (only for those who arrange for accommodation on their own)
STEP 4
Accommodation & final arrival announcement
【Expected Date】
Around Wednesday, May 18th, 2022
The assigned accommodation information will be announced by e-mail.
You will be also informed the meeting point at Narita Airport for limousine bus service.
STEP 5
Receive "Certificate of Admission" and "Invitation Letter" from Waseda University
(For those who need a Visa to enter Japan)

STEP 6
Apply for visa

As soon as you receive "Certificate of Admission" and "Invitation Letter" from us
Please obtain a visa at your local Japanese Embassy/Consulate General as soon as you receive the Certificate of Admission and Invitation letter from us.
Please be aware it may take several weeks to have a visa issued.
