Application Process


  • 1. Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university as a full-time student out side of Japan (undergraduate)
  • 2. GPA 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or above

* The Summer Session courses will be taught in English. For students enrolled in educational institutions where English is not the main language of instruction, the following level of language efficiency is recommended.
TOEFL/PBT: 550; TOEFL/iBT: 79; IELTS: 6.0

* We will screen applications in case we receive more applications than we can accept.

How to Apply

The application must be completed online. Online applications will be opened from February 1, 2017. The following documents are required to be attached to the online application form.

  • 1) An OFFICIAL transcript from the applicant’s home institution.
    (The minimum GPA requirement is 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.)
  • 2) Grading scale (if not mentioned in the above official transcript)
  • 3) Color headshot (taken within the last 3 months)
  • 4) Passport copy (pages showing passport number and face photo required)

When applying online, applicants are also asked to explain why they would like to join the Summer Session.

The Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)'s scholarship is available to a limited number of undergraduate students from our partner institutions. The qualified students can receive 80,000 yen after arrival. The detailed information such as eligibility and application procedure can be found here.

Notice of Acceptance

An e-mail of acceptance or rejection will be sent to all applicants by April 21, 2017.

Tuition and Fees

In general, those who enroll in the Summer Session are required to take two out of the 13 available courses. In addition, students can take one Japanese language class as optional with additional charge. Please note that due to the time schedule of the Summer Session, it is not possible to take more than two regular courses nor more than one Japanese language class.

Payment Method

The tuition and fees must be paid in full after admission is confirmed no later than May 7, 2017 by credit card ONLY.The handling charge to the credit card company should be paid by an applicant.The method of payment will be announced to successful applicants separately.

Refund Policy

As a rule, we do not refund tuition and fees once payment is complete. However, students who drop their program due to unavoidable reasons before the start of the Session (Thursday, June 22, 2017) will be charged JPY 25,000 for cancellation. Other remaining tuition and fees besides housing fee will be refunded. Please note that housing fee is not refundable once payment is made. Administrative fee (credit card fee) and transaction fees or any other handling charges occurred are the applicant's responsibility.


Students from the U.S., Canada, and most European countries do not need a visa if they stay in Japan for under 90 days. On the other hand, those who are from many Asian, African, and Middle Eastern countries will need visas to visit Japan. The Summer Session Office will send a “Certificate of Admission” and invitation letter after confirming the payment. Applicants requiring a visa should apply at their local Japanese embassy on their own. It may take several weeks to have a visa issued.
